Why do dry-cleaned clothes have a chemical smell?
A:
Most dry cleaners in Austin use a chemical called perchloroethylene, a solvent that’s used to “clean” garments…and to degrease metals in manufacturing plants. We’d bet that’s why dry-cleaned clothes have that funky smell.
What is dry cleaning anyway?
A:
1. Garments are placed into a washing/extraction chamber with the chemical perchloroethylene to remove dirt and grease.
2. That same perchloroethylene solution from the first cycle will continually be used on other clothes, garments, bedding, you name it, for the next week…even though it’s already been used…yikes.
3. The garments are rinsed with another solvent, then dried, then the old solvent is condensed to be used yet again on more people’s clothes…that’s dirty water and chemicals on your go-to suit, your down comforter, your favorite blouse…yikes again.
So what makes Eco Clean an eco-friendly dry cleaner?
A:
The “wet cleaning” method we use is the safest alternative to dry cleaning available. We use biodegradable detergents and fresh, clean water in every cycle to wash your garments. That means safe on your skin, in your home and for the environment. And a really high-quality cleaning.
So, my clothes will get top-quality cleaning and pressing?
A:
Yes and yes. The “wet cleaning” method isn’t just eco-friendly; it really gets your garments clean. As in, you won’t have to think about them again until you’re ready to use them. On top of that, after we’ve washed them, our experienced pressers hand-press each item to have you looking your best without ever having to drag the iron and ironing board out yourself. Quality cleaning and pressing, done right so you don’t have to.
Is wet cleaning hard on my clothes?
A:
No, it is very easy on clothes and improves the quality of almost any fabric. Because the “wet cleaning” method is so gentle and effective, clothes have a softer look and feel than those run through a dry cleaners. Meaning your clothes will look newer, longer. We can even maintain the quality of delicate fabrics like silk, rayon, wool and linen.
